Traveling While Black with Briona Lamback
Today's History Story: Staying Safe While Traveling
Traveling wasn't always accessible to our ancestors. The Great Migration allowed many Black individuals to leave the South and move to urban areas. Over time, leisure travel became common among Black people, facilitated by resources like The Green Book, offering opportunities to break free from oppression and to discover the interconnectedness of Black communities nationwide.
Today, more Black Americans are traveling abroad to connect with dispersed roots, including our guest, PushBlack’s very own Briona Lamback.
Along with being a valued senior writer on our Content team, Briona is an award-winning journalist and entrepreneur. She’s the founder of Buoyant Travel, which she created with the following principles in mind: economics, joy, and Black travel as a key to Black freedom.

The History of The Silent Protests Speaks Volume
Damn... Before the video ended... I knew it had to do with Cop City. What starts in the South is the training ground for everywhere else. I'm paraphrasing and I forget who said it, but they were absolutely right.
Where was this which state?
When i was in school they absolutely did not teach black history right! There’s so much i don’t know and would love to know more about it’s a shame.
Yup, and the media never talks about this at all.😊
Segregation is the way; we don't get along integrated; it didn't work out as we THOUGHT. Follow suite of the Arabs, Indians & Asians, STAY TO YOURSELVES & Prosper. You can't prosper where you're NOT wanted.
Very importantly Never have a white confidant unless you want 50 million people to know what you told them.
It is no secret. Moisture is the key
In Trinidad we use “ent?” Like “isn’t it though?” Or the British “Innit?”
Always love to see your content. Thank you. 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽✊🏽
This is 2024 we can have our own sundown towns.
Uh, large parts of every major city in the country are no go zones for gliders.
I live in such a town. It's why I moved here. Hardly any crime, no sagging pants, no thumping music
To be told you're articulate, unless you're a child (in which case it's a compliment), is clearly a passive aggressive move, but I had no idea about the use of 'tipping point'. Ugh.
how are things?! epic , I'll be back. 🖖
I just learned another one the other day and I’ve been using it forever without realizing that it is terribly offensive. It is used in botanical nomenclature and comes from Arabic. It literally means “non-believer” but was used pejoratively by Arabs against East Africans. So no more K***r Lily or K***r Lime. I am trying to remember Bush Lily and Makrut Lime, though most garden centers still use the offensive term.
You are ridiculous. Those sounds existed in European English where there were no slaves 😂
But hasn’t the tenor or connotation for articulate changed? I use the adjective as a compliment for those who can clearly and concisely express their thoughts
The TRUTH hurts 🤕
Interesting, I had no idea.
It makes me so sick that so many people are still killed at the hands of the police. This isn't right.
An art history prof at ucla might have been the source of this misinformation. Actual liguists seem to disagree.
What is the email to present an illegal confinement case that needs immediate immediate attention😢!!!
This is like the time my friend tried to convince me the word picnic was racist
when you are so desperate to distinguish yourself from others that you form unfounded theories of cultural heritage... the sound "mhm" is a nasal version of "uh huh", which happens when you simply keep your lips closed. "uh huh" itself is a sound commonly found around the globe as the doubling of the most basic "uhh" sounds human babies use when they discover their ability of voice. for the same reason, almost every language developed the word "mama" independently since its the composition of exactly these two easy sounds. the "uuhh" and the "mmmm".
Lol I'm writing a fantasy novel with a character that does this. I'm trying to think of another way to say it that people unfamiliar with the term may understand.
Race soldiers and their leaders of WS AmeriKKKa are still racist soldiering!
If you look hard enough, and are disgruntled enough, you can find racism in everything.
Thank you I always knew this that the dance was of African descent folks
Nothing has changed Biden/ Harris used his death for votes as democrats do. STOP listening and believing in their lies. Better to know your enemy than back stab by who you thought was a friend
Russians use угу which reads like uhu but sometimes pronounced mhm. Personally that’s more like separating people by nationality. It’s a natural reaction to use these sounds and people that are used to shutting something inside or shutting lips will use the m sound.
I now no longer feel comfortable saying mhm, and I say it often because I don’t often want to talk. Said especially to my daughter when I dont know how to respond to what she’s saying. I will find another thing to say.
The clickbait title isn't necessary
🧌🧌🧌
It makes a lot of sense. In Brazil we use mmhm exactly the same, and we speak portuguese, not english. But what we have in common with the US is the history of slavery and the heritage that the enslaved people left us
They can do things like this , because our governent used to let them to anything they wanted to do to black and other people of color. Now tell me whathas changed?
Belacalis in the middle of the slide show threw me
haitian here! we say “ehen”
❤❤❤
I just bought 2 today. One red and one yellow. 🍉 🍉
I'm glad you guys interviewed him!! He needs our support!
i get why it's a thing, but this way of forming sentences only make it difficult for children to communicate bad things that happen to them. if someone's lying, they are lying, not "telling a story". a liar is a liar, a child should be able to point that out when necessary. not get scolded about not saying "telling a story", or "fibbing".
racists are trash.....complete trash
Leaving a comment here so i will be reminded about the donation link every time i get a like 🥹
